Do You Remember Interquilt?

This morning I was getting reacquainted with a fellow former member of Interquilt, Lori.  It brought back so many memories....block swaps, fabric swaps, Secret Sister, and get togethers.

I was fortunate to go to the Interquilt Convention in Lancaster in 1999.  I met so many of the women who I had been swapping with for years.  Interquilt had a "Squishy Challenge" in connection with the convention.  You sent in 3 ugly fabrics to Melissa (the Web Mistress), and she sent back someone else's ugly fabrics plus one she chose to send to all participants.  The bottom picture shows the back of the quilt.  I used my uglies for it.  The top is the fabric Melissa sent to all participants, the 3 uglies were: 1.  a blue with pinwheels, 2. a very ugly hand dyed, and finally #3 a batik with zebras.  We could add 2 additional fabrics.  Top picture shows the quilt I made.  It is button hole applique.  I added black and the red inner border.  I won the challenge and then I entered my little quilt in my guilds quilt show.  I was so excited to win first place.

This shows the good side of the Internet.  Quilters from all over the world who get together to further the craft of quilting.  Interquilt is now gone but many of those friendships still exist.  I was away from the Internet for 4 years while taking care of my Dad.  Once back home I got reconnected with friends through Facebook.  That led to Blogs and then  starting my own.   I am learning so much through these online friends.

I've been in my sewing room, sewing all morning with my back to the window.  When I went to get my laptop I looked out the window and what did I see.....SNOW!  I don't know about you but I have had it up to hear with SNOW.

Hoping you are having a quilty day.  Hugs, Cat

The snow looks so romantic to me, but I don't have to live in it! Happy sewing.

Ewwww....again?! We've been snow-free, today. I know it's south of us and now east of us, too. Guess we got lucky this time. Have fun sewing!

Now that just proves there is no ugly fabric - your little quilt is just gorgeous!!! I've never heard of Interquilt, I think I was totally into homeschooling sites when we first got internet.

I was getting ready to go help my girlfriend move today when she called and told me to look out the window. ARGH. We stayed home, lol! C'mon, spring, enough is enough!

I found Interquilt to be addictive - I participated in too many swaps and quit about 1998. I am currently trying to finish make some wall hangings with those swap blocks.

Cathy -- and anyone else from IQ. Some of us are still together on a list that we formed when InterQuilt was shut down. Check us out in The Quilter Magazine, April/May 2012 issue. We'd love to see some familiar names again! We still do gatherings, without the drama, and have a lot of fun. karen in ct

I remember the year that challenge took place and the fabric that was sent to everyone...lol. Still have my quilt as well.

Like Karen said, check out the article about the Beehive in the article this month. We'd love to reconnect with old list members.

And I'm a third putting in a plug for the Beehive. The article is really nice. I was also one of those who took part in the squishy challenge and won an award - just don't remember which one!

I'm several years late to this post, but I was a member of InterQuilt YEARS ago - but I remember it fondly, and wondered if it still existed. Did a web search and found this reference on your blog - great memories! I definitely remember the swaps and the squishy challenges, and the birthday sign-ups - it was great to get surprise fabric in the mail. Take care - Catie Drew.

I am many years late to this post but it brought back many great memories. I was the sole Canadian in the beginning but still have many friends on the Beehive. Thanks for the memories.

I am even later coming to this post, I was a member of Interquilt, and participated in many swaps. The Christmas quilt on our bed right now is from a swap from those days. My favorite quilt, though, was a series of swaps about decades. It started with a swap about the 1940’s. Subsequent swaps were about the ,20’s, 30’s’, ‘50’s and ‘60’s. I ended up with a quilt representing 50 years of culture. I received blocks from all over our country as well as England and Japan. Each person wrote a narrative of why she chose her design. Each block was so unique, and the narratives so fascinating! I still have all those written narratives, and I treasure the huge quilt I made of them.

I too am very late into this post. I was with Interquilt in the mid 90,s as well. Sharon H. I bought a featherweight from you. Still have it and love it. I, too, have blocks from those exchanges. I just this week got word from my daughter that she had finished the longarm custom quilting of a Christmas quilt I put together using my MOM blocks from 1996. Sharon H. a block you made is in it.
I would love to hear from members from that group. Evelyn in Illinois. evelynlegendre@gmail.com
