Strings

Everywhere I look in the sewing room I see strings.  I haven't worked on these blocks as much as I'd like but I do have 16 blocks made.

I tried 2 different layouts.  Number 1....

I'm not real fond of this.

Number 2....

Oh yeah...this one is a keeper.  Now I just need to make more blocks.  This will not be a short term project.  This is going to take a while but I think it will be worth it.

I'm linking up with Lori at Humble Quilts.

Thanks for stopping by.

P.S. Another day of below zero weather.  We haven't had mail delivery in 4 days.

Dearest Boy Block 4 C

I was going to do my post last night but wasn't feeling well and went to bed early.  So I was going to do my post first thing this morning but I bundled up and read emails....It was cold this morning.  Temps are -4.

Any way.  Here is my block.  The blue circles were suppose to be hexagons.  I decided to do fussy cut circles.

I'm really happy with the way it turned out.

Be sure to stop by Karen'sJulie's, and Carole's Blogs to see what they've been up to.

Stay warm and sew today.

Some Updates

I showed you a quilt a while back that I wanted to make.

The quilt is called "Folk Flowers" and it is from the Need'l Love book called "Folk Heart Threads".  At the time I had 3 blocks made shown below.

I have been working on the blocks off and on in between all the other projects I've been working on.  I also said I was going to use a similar fabric for the setting squares as I used for the background.

I wasn't real impressed with it.

So I went back to the drawing board and found a black fabric I liked and cut out the setting squares, and setting triangles.  Looks much better.  There is much more to do on this quilt.  3 more borders and one of them has more applique.

I've been keeping up with Pat Sloan's weekly quilt along "Flower Bouquet".

This is Block 3 called "Planting Guide".  Don't look too close.  I sorta flipped the placement but didn't notice till I was done.  I like it anyway.

This is Block 4 called "Gazebo".  There will be 20 blocks in all and the patterns are posted every Wednesday.

And finally the last photo is of a finished top.

This is a lap quilt I made using a Layer Cake.  I saw a tutorial on You Tube.  I call this quilt "Winter Half Log Cabin".  I have the backing cut out and have made the binding.  Now all I need to do is find the time to sandwich it and quilt it.

Thanks for stopping by on this cold, wintry snowy day.  It's 11 degrees out and it is still snowing.

January's UFO

Woo Hoo!!!  Can I have a drum roll?  My goal for this month was to finish a UFO from 3 years ago.  "Civil War Moments".  Ta Da......

I just finished sewing the last border on.  I'm so happy it is done.  I used 2 different pieced blocks and changed one of the applique blocks.  The flower is the one I changed.  This quilt is for my husband.  He is a big civil war buff.  And he really likes it.

So I went through my list of UFO's for the year.  The UFO for February is Sentimental Stitches Sew Along "Simple Summer Sampler".  Not sure if this one will get finished.  I've made 17 blocks and need to make another 33 blocks.  They are 9" finished.

I didn't realize that I'm using the same fabrics for the Pat Sloan's Flower Bouquet Weekly Block along.  That's okay....I love blue.

I'm also working on a flower applique quilt.  2 more blocks and then I can start on the appliqued border.  2 Pat Sloan quilt alongs.  I started making string blocks.  And don't forget "Dearest Boy".  Be sure to stop back on the 30th for the reveal of the next block.

I cut out a bunch of Half Hexagon blocks and started sewing them together.  And I finished half log cabin blocks that I made from a Layer Cake.  They are also in shades of blue.

Since it's so cold out I'm hiding out in my sewing room getting some quality time with my sewing machine.

Thanks for stopping by.  Keep warm and get some sewing done.

A Mini Finish

Wendy at theconstantquilter.blogspot.com had mentioned in December that she had purchased Pam Buda's book "Vintage Patchwork".  The book has 12 projects and she was planning on doing one project a month.  Since I had the book I decided to tag along.

The first project is called "North and South".  The quilt is only 8 1/2" x 12 1/2".  The center blocks are 4" finished.  The flying geese are 1" x 2" finished.  I must say that the tiny blocks were a bit of a challenge for me.  But I persevered finished this mini quilt.

I decided to hang it sideways on my wall.  I'm glad it is finished and I'm happy with the way it turned out.

Here is Block 2 of 20 for Pat Sloan's sew along "Flower Bouquet".

This block is called Bulb.  The blocks come out every Wednesday.  Block 3 was just posted.  Hoping to get it made today.

The weather is still cold and still no snow....knock on wood.  So I am getting some real sewing done.  Staying warm in my sewing room.  I'll have more to show you later this week.

I hope you are staying warm and getting some sewing done.

Back in the Saddle

In other words back to working on Dearest Boy.  It was nice taking the month of December off.  Gave me more time for Christmas shopping and working on other projects.

We are just about half way to the end.

I tell you....this was one difficult block.  It looks wonky.  But that's okay.  It's finished.

I've been getting a lot done lately.  I have 2 pieced blocks and 2 applique blocks to make for my UFO of the month, Civil War Memories.  It will be nice to get it done.  I'll share photos later this month.

I need the final 3 of 16 of the flower blocks for another project.

I started making some strip blocks.  I have 10 done.

And I've been getting in 30 minutes of hand quilting  every night.

All will be revealed later this month.

We don't have snow here but the weather has been really cold.  It makes for nice sewing time.  The sewing room is nice and toasty.  Fabric makes for great insulation.

Well thanks for stopping by.

I'm a Pat Sloan Fan

I love all her BOM's and sew alongs.  I don't always join in but I save all the patterns.  This time however I am joining in on 2 sew alongs.

The first is "Out of the World".  I'm not using the same fabric as she is.  I am using some batiks that I got a while ago.  Here is the first block.

It's called "Space Shuttle".  Mine is called "Star Gazing".

The other sew along is called Flower Bouquet.

This is a 12" block.  It is the first of 20 blocks and it is called "Seed Catalog".  I'm using a fat quarter bundle designed by Edyta Sitar.  Lots of blues and beige's.

My January UFO is coming along nicely.  I now have 9 pieced blocks made and I have one applique prepped and ready to go.  I really want to finish this top by the end of the month.

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you get some time to get some sewing done.

A New Year

A time for finishes from years past...

I drew up a list of 12 UFOs that have been languishing for a couple of years.  I numbered them and used a random number generator to choose the first on to work on.

Ta DA....

My first UFO to work on is "Civil War Moments".  I'm ashamed to say that I have been working on this (very occasionally) for the past 2 years.  It was suppose to be a Christmas present for my husband.

As of last year I had made the 3 applique blocks and the middle 3 pieced blocks.
Between yesterday and today I made the bottom 3 blocks.  I have 3 more applique blocks and 6 more pieced blocks to work on.

I did manage to get a finish on New Year's Day.

This is a table runner that I made at the end of 2017.  Didn't get it done in time for Christmas and set it aside.  While digging through some UFOs I found this.
So I pulled a backing and a scrap of batting and sandwiched it with safety pins.  It was a breeze to quilt.  I made the binding from some jelly roll strips I had left over from a project.  So now I have a gift for next Christmas....lol

I need to show you a gift my daughter gave me for Christmas.

It's the only time she has ever used the B-Word for me.....lol.  I love them.

We are back to working our Dearest Boy this month.  We'll be back on the 15th with the next block.

I hope you all have a Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year.

Thanks for stopping by.
