I Joined the Jubilee Project

Lori at Humble Quilts and a few friends started the Jubilee Project.  Lori is turning 50 this year and to celebrate is making a Jubilee Quilt.  She invited others to join.  Luckily you didn't have to be turning 50...I'm a bit passed that.

My Jubilee quilt will be a Christmas Quilt. (All these years of quilting and I really don't have one).  It will celebrate my husband's retirement last October and our 23rd Anniversary earlier this month.

Here is what I came up with....

This is my center of my Medallion Quilt.  Now to figure out what goes next....lol

Still working on my next Quiltmaker's Scrap Squad quilt.  I really like this one.  Did you enjoy my post on Quiltmaker's Blog ?  I had so much fun putting it together.  You need to check out their blog on a daily basis.  Not only do they show the quilts that the Scrap Squad has made, they have really nice giveaways.  Today they are having a giveaway for some fabric and books.

Hope you are having a wonderful day.

As Promised...

Here is a picture of my quilt (Chain Reaction) for Quiltmaker Magazine....

I had so much fun working on this quilt.  One thing that I didn't share on Quiltmaker's Blog is I ran out of the background fabric (because of piecing errors) and had to substitute a different fabric.  Luckily you can't tell.  And then I didn't know what fabric to use for the binding so I bought some fabric similar to the background.  Sure am glad they all blended well.

You really should bookmark Quilmaker's blog Quilty Pleasures not just to see my quilts (big smile) but for all the wonderful information on it.  They also have so many giveaways.  Right now they are giving away some quilt tops.  So please check it out.

I've Got Something to Show You

I don't know if I told you but we celebrated our 23 wedding anniversary while visiting our son.  Terry said he had a present for me at home.  Yesterday he finally got around to giving it to me.  And here it is...

Isn't it a beauty.  It has fabrics from the 1860's to the 1920's.  I really love it.  It is a good thing he likes quilts as much as I do.  Yep...he did good.

On Thursday we went to my new favorite store..IKEA.  We had gone before and I saw these units that held 6 wire baskets each.  It worked out to 30 dollars a unit.  Well lets just say my sewing room definitely needed some storage help.  I talked Terry into letting me get 4 units.  It took me 3 days to build them, fill them and I'm still cleaning.  But I now have a new home for my fat quarters, and projects I'm working on.  However, I still have 3 or 4 storage boxes of FQ that I need to find room.  But that's for another day.  Here are what they look like.

For the first time in years I can actually walk straight to my sewing table without bumping into things...lol

Rumor has it that my first quilt for Quiltmaker's 2012 Scrap Squad will be posted tomorrow on their blog.  I'll let you know.

Also, my granddaughter Ashley is in another Hockey Tournament this weekend.  Yesterday they won the first game 3 - 0,  They lost the second game but she scored the first goal.  They are playing again today and she said she would email me the outcome.

I hope your weekend is a good one.  Are you sewing?  I hope to finally get to work on something today.  The fun thing about cleaning and reorganizing my sewing room is I found some projects I had started and forgot about.

Wishing you a Quilty day!

Sorry I've Been MIA

I've been quite because we've been on the road.  We went to the Upper Peninsula to visit my son Pat, his wife Courtney and my granddaughter Ashley.  Also the trip was to celebrate our 23rd Wedding Anniversary.  More on that in a bit.

I'm late on showing these, but here are the quilts I have hanging up this month.

Now for our trip.  We lucked out on the weather driving up.  It was bright and sunny out when we got to the Mackinaw Bridge.

Although there was quite a bit of snow.  We got to my son's on Thursday and another beautiful day.  However, Friday there was such a terrible blizzard that we could not leave the house.  We had beautiful, but cold weather for the remainder of the weekend.  Thank goodness since we had such a long drive on Sunday to Green Bay.

Ashley is 10 years old and quite accomplished.  She takes dance lessons, does gymnastics, plays baseball and plays hockey.  While we were visiting she had 3 hockey games.  One in Marquette (sorry they lost) on Saturday and 2 in Green Bay, WI on Sunday.....YES....they won both games.  Ashley got a total of 4 goals and 1 assist.

Now that we are home, I'm working on the latest Scrap Squad Quilt.  You need to check out the Quiltmaker's Quilty Pleasures Blog and see my fellow Scrap Squad member, Jackie's quilt.  It is beautiful.  Mine should be published on their blog soon.  I'll let you know soon.  Until then.....

Introducing the Scrap Squad

Check out the Quiltmaker Blog Quilty Pleasures by going here and meet Me and my fellow Scrap Squad members.  We should be able to share our first quilt with you shortly.

Yesterday was beautiful here in Michigan so Terry and I took off for a ride.  We ended up at Kensington Metro Park.  The birds were singing and the swans were sleeping.

After we left the park we headed to Brighton to have some lunch.  They have a beautiful park downtown that goes along the river.   And guess what we saw?

It was mostly ice but some open water.  We laughed so hard to see the birds land on the ice and then slide into a bunch of other birds.  It looked like they were bowling.  A duck was trying to walk on the ice but it looked more like skating.

After having lunch out we came home and watched the Super Bowl....well I just watched the commercials.  I loved the dog Doritos commercial.  Too cute.

No quilty news to share but hopefully that will change soon.  I'm sewing labels on a few quilts and will show them later this week.

Have a great day.

Look What I Made Yesterday

I was going through some fabric trying to find some fabric for the next Scrap Squad Quilt and I came across some red 2 1/2" red squares and 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" off white rectangles.  I laid the red squares on top of the off white rectangles and sewed corner to corner on the red squares.  This is what I came up with.

It was so nice to piece, quilt and bind a quilt in one day.  The dark spots on the quilt are from the marker I used to mark the quilt for machine quilting.  They are almost gone.

Any day I should be able to reveal my Quiltmaker Scrap Squad quilt.  We've already been given the pattern for the next quilt and I've started working on it.  I am sooooo busy but I love it.

Wishing you a quilty day.

Hugs, Cathy
