How it's Going

Okay so I took some time of to get some Christmas quilts made.  I did manage to get two tops made (no photos yet).  I was hoping to get lots done however things don't always work out as planned.

I was having some bladder problems and my doctor sent me to a Urologist.  She had me get a CT Scan and they discovered I have bladder cancer.  Wednesday I had surgery to remove the tumor.  I tell you I feel like a Mac Truck ran over me.  Each day gets better but I'm still pretty sore.

They left the catheter in and I will go Monday to the doctors to have the catheter removed.  Friday I go and see my doctor to see what's next.

Two years ago just before my birthday I found out I had breast cancer and had surgery the week after my birthday.  Now two years later just before my birthday I found out I have bladder cancer and a week later surgery.  Well I was talking with my daughter and we decided no more birthdays.  She and I will be gloriously 50 from now on.

I will keep you updated on whats happening and I will continue to read your blogs.  Hopefully I will be able to get back to sewing soon.

Taking Some Time Off

I've had a lot going on and trying to keep up with all my projects has been hard.  I'm going to finish Mrs. Lincoln's Quilt and will post a photo when I'm done.

I'm going to work on Christmas quilts for my family and will pick up my ongoing projects later in the year.

I will keep reading my favorite blogs but won't be posting anything until I have a finished quilt.

Take care and keep quilting.

Hot July Projects

This has been a hot steamy month.  We've had storms with damaging winds and flooding conditions.  It was a good month for staying in my cool sewing room.

1.  July's Monthly Mini.

Sunflowers are my favorite flower.  I remember when my grandson was young we planted sunflowers in the backyard.  He was thrilled to see how tall they grew.

2.  Celebrating Mary Brown.

The photo is slightly blurry (must be the camera's fault...lol) I love this block.  I will add the button eyes when the quilt is all done.

3.  Mrs. Lincoln's Quilt.

Only one month to go.  It has been a long journey and I've been happy to have Julie traveling with me.  I can't believe we only have one more month.

4.  Home For the Holidays

I took a picture of these blocks before I've sewn them together  Three more months to go on this.

5.  Barbara Brackman's Ladies Aid.

This is the block for month four.  I've just started Month five.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  I enjoy reading your comments.  I hope you are staying safe and healthy and enjoying some beautiful summer weather.

Hugs, Cathy

End of June Update

It has been hot, humid and rainy the last couple of weeks.  I've spent a lot of time in my cool basement sewing room.  I have a few things to share.

1.  June's Monthly Mini

I love how this turned out.  I didn't want to do it in red, white and blue.  These fabrics worked out for me.

2.  Celebrating Mary Brown

The original block for this month was a bit too complicated for me so I chose instead to make a pieced block.  July's block is going to be an owl.  I can't wait.

3.  Mrs. Lincoln's Quilt

This month's pieced and appliqued block.  I can't believe Julie and I are almost done with this sewalong.  Only 4 more blocks to make.  I can't wait.

4.  A Finish

This quilt is a pattern by Cheri Payne called "Forget me Not".  I finished the top a few years ago and decided I wanted to finish it.

I have kept up with all my BOM's, and BOW's but didn't want to bore you with all the photos.  I will share a few.  With summer finally here we are hoping to do some camping.  We are going camping with my daughter Kelley for the 4th of July weekend.

Thank you so much for stopping by.  I appreciate your comments.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend

This has been a month to remember.  I managed to finish everything on my monthly project list.  Well all except this month's UFO.  I only got one block made for it.  The reason being we went camping for a week with my daughter Kelley and her husband Chris.  We had such a great time.  But that took a week out of my sewing time.

I got lots done but I won't bore you with all the photos.

1.  Celebrating Mary Brown.

I love how this block turned out.

2.  Mrs. Lincoln's Quilt

3.  A Finish

I've had this quilt top put together for quite awhile.  It was a block swap I participated in with quilters from all over the world.  We left to go camping on a Wednesday and I wanted to take a quilt.  So Monday I cut and sewed the backing, sandwiched it and pinned it.  On Tuesday I quilted and bound the quilt.  I did a vertical wavy stitch and used some leftover red binding from a couple of different projects.  I'm really happy with the way it turned out and I used it on the cooler evenings.

4.  Barbara Brackman's Ladies Aid.

 5.  Home for the Holidays BOM

This is the new BOM I signed up for with Connecting Threads.  Each month you get a row to work on.  I love these trees.  However, I forgot how hard it is to work with black fabric.  It's a real pain.

6.  Last but not least  May Mini.

I'll show more next month.  I will however leave you with a few pictures from our camping trip.

Here is our dogs, son in law Chris and Hubby Terry.

We were camping at Algonac State Park and that's the St. Clair River.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  I hope you have a happy and safe Memorial Day.

End of April

Boy did this month fly by.  We are ending the month with April Showers.  I hope it brings May flowers.

Here are some projects I've been working on.

1.  Monthly Mini.

I really enjoyed making this one.  The flying geese are trimmings from my Ready for Spring quilt.

2.  Celebrating Mrs. Brown.

I needed a simple block to make this month.  The original block was just too complicated.  I have no qualms about substituting blocks.  After all it is my quilt.

3.  Mrs. Lincoln's Quilt.

I'm getting excited that the end is coming.  I love all the quilts.  My friend Julie at juliekquilts.blogspot.com is also making this quilt.

4.  Aunt Em's September Sun

This is a new BOW that just started.  Since Autumn is my favorite time of year I just couldn't pass this one up.

I finished up more Pat Sloan's Home Is blocks and Socialities blocks but i didn't get photos.

The APQ UFO for May is Number 9.  That happens to be my Bringing Home the Tree Quilt.  I only have one row made and need to make an additional 3 rows.  I hope I can get this one done.

My UFO for April was Barbara Brackman's Yankee Notions.  I did get the top put together with sashings and borders.  I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.

I thank you so much for stopping by.  I hope you found something you liked.

Four Seasons of April

It has certainly been a strange month so far.  We've had snow (Winter), rain (Spring), heat (Summer), and blowing winds (Fall).  And I see we are expecting snow again this month.

Well enough of the bad weather.  Let's talk quilts.  I've been working on a few projects.  Here they are.

1.  Pat Sloan's Home Is

This is a block of the week.  And the blocks are all different sizes.  If you are interested in making this quilt all the blocks can be found on her blog.

2.  Barbara Brackman's Hands All Around.

Directions are given for 8", 12" and 16" blocks.  I have chosen to make one of each.  At the end of the year I should have enough blocks for a couple of quilts.

3.  Barbara Brackman's Ladies Aid

This is block number one.  The pattern calls for 15" blocks with hearts appliqued in each corner.  I decided to make the blocks 12" and will try a different setting.

4.  Fig Tree's Strawberry Sampler Mystery

Yes you are right.  It is a new BOM I signed up for.  Thank goodness some of my other projects are at an end so I have time to do another.

5.  Lexington BOM

This BOM comes from Connecting Threads.  I love the fabrics.

6.  Quilt Doodles 2021 BOM

I still need to do the button hole stitching around this block.

7.  Ready for Spring

Top is finished and I have to figure out how to quilt it.  I love how it turned out.

8.  Shine On BOM

Just 4 - 6" blocks this month.

That's it for now.  I have to take some more photos of projects I will share at the end of the month.  I know I have lots of projects but they are usually only a few blocks each month.

I've started working on my UFO for the month.  It is Barbara Brackman's Yankee Notions quilt.  I had all the blocks made.  Today I cut and sewed the sashing.  Then I need to add 2 more borders and it will be done.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  I hope you found something you liked.

Keeping Busy

I got my second Covid 19 vacine on Saturday.  So far no reaction.

Now to show you what I've been working on.

1.  Mrs. Brown and Annabelle decided to go on vacation this month.  Therefore I have nothing to show you.  Hopefully they will be back soon and I can play with them again.

2.  Mrs. Lincoln's Quilt

I chose to do a simpler version of the pineapple.

3.  Ready for Spring.

These are Blocks 7 & 8.  I just got the pattern for block 9.  Then I need to make the connecting blocks and put the quilt together.

4.  Fig Tree Sparkles and Cream BOM.

Here are March's blocks.  As you can see this is a low volume fabric quilt.

5.  Shine on BOM.

Here is month 4 blocks.  It is going to be a bright and cheerful quilt.

6.  Sewcialites BOW.

Blocks 23 and 24.

7.  Pat Sloan's Home Is..

Blocks 11 and 12.

8.  UFO of the Month.

My APQ UFO for this month was a quilt called Molly.  I thought I had all the pieces cut out but when I pulled out the box I found I still needed to do some cutting.  I then knew I would not be finishing this UFO.  The blocks are 18" and I managed to make 6 blocks.  I will continue to work on this when I have a few minutes.

9.  March Mini,

My monthly mini for this month is a Jan Patek quilt kit I  purchased a while ago.  This seemed like the perfect month to work on it.

Thank you so much for stopping by.  I hope you found something you liked.

Spring is in the Air

Skies are blue and the sun is shining.  Windows are open and the air feels good.

I had a reaction to the covid shot.  A couple of days after the shot I got a headache to end all headaches.  It hurt to walk, talk, and move in any way.  This lasted for 3 days.  Then I got a stomach bug not related to the shot.  So I wasn't doing too good for almost a week.  So when I went to download photos of what I have worked on I was surprised.  I got quite a bit done.

1.  Sewcialities BOW

Block 21

Block 22

2.  My Favorite Color Is Moda.

These are months 2 and 3.  This BOM was suppose to start in January but they were missing one of the fabrics so it was delayed.  It started in February.  Then the fabric came in so they caught us up to day.  Hence 2 months worth of blocks this month.

3.  Pat Sloan's Home Is...BOW

4. Lexington BOM.

5.  Ready For Spring BOW.

Here are blocks 5 and 6 and then all the blocks so far.

6.  Hands All Around.

Blocks in order top to bottom.  8", 12" and 16".

7.  Quilt Doodles BOM

I leave you with this cutie.  Who would think that a skunk could be so cute.

Well thanks for stopping by.  I hope you are safe, healthy and enjoying some wonderful weather.

Hugs, Cathy
