Quilt Show Today

Today Hubby and I went to a quilt show at the Octagon House in Washington Twp., Michigan.

As the name implies the house is Octagon shaped.  It is furnished with wonderful antiques and there are a few antique quilts.  I wasn't able to get a picture of them.

They had some quilts hanging outside....

It was such a beautiful setting.

The quilt show itself was held in a barn.  The quilts were hung on clothes line with clothes pins.

Here is a close up of the hand quilting on this antique.  Both my husband and I fell in love with this quilt.

Some more eye candy for you.

Oops....This one really wasn't hanging sideways...forgot to turn the photo...lol

The lighting wasn't the best and there weren't a lot of quilts, but what they had were beautiful.   Only a few vendors but I was a good girl and didn't buy anything.  I've been visiting my online stores lately.

The property was beautiful.  It is really growing up around the Octagon House but have managed to keep the charm of the place.  Here are a few of the out buildings.

I hope you enjoyed the Quilt show and that you are having a wonderful weekend.

Back From Vacation

Had a wonderful time and so glad to be home.  We go back in 2 1/2 weeks to house sit but this time just me and hubby.

Got some squishy's in the mail while I was gone.  The balance of my blocks from the New Bee Block Swap I belong to  on 15 Minute Play.

I'm going to make a few more blocks and sash them in white.  I really like these blocks,

Hope your weekend has been a good and that you are keeping cool.  I'm off to go play in my sewing room.  I so missed it.

Having a wonderful time....

Wish you were here.

We have been so busy.  2 10 year old girls can really keep you going.  My granddaughter Ashley found a quilt I had made her years ago.  I had never taken a picture of it.  Now I have one.

The pattern I used was originally a miniature quilt pattern.  So I just enlarged it.  You can't see it from this photo but I embroidered antennae on each butterfly.

Here are some photos from our vacation so far.

We visited a Pirate Ship in Marquette's Lower Harbor.

Went swimming in Lake Superior on Presque Isle.

Visited Seney Wildlife Refuge.  The above is an Osprey Nest with some babies.

An Eagles nest.  See the Eagle.

We saw quite a few Loons.  This is the only one close enough to get a picture.

And we saw thousands of Water Lilys.

Afterwards we drove down to Manistique to go swimming by the lighthouse.

The cousins are having a ball.  They really enjoy one another and they really tire out their grand parents.  I'm totally exhausted by the days end.

The weather has been pretty good.  One day of heat and humidity, one day of rain and today it is beautiful.  It is in the seventies, sunny, slight breeze and at 10:30 in the morning the girls are still sleeping....lol

I've managed to work on my applique project I brought with me.  Again I can't show you as it is part of the 4th Quiltmaker Scrap Squad Quilt.  But soon, I promise.

I hope you are all enjoying your summer.

Time to Reveal my Scrap Squad Quilt

My quilt is revealed on the Quiltmaker Magazine's  Quilty Pleasures Blog.

Below is the original quilt that is in the current issue of Quiltmaker Magazine.

Each member of the Scrap Squad was asked to come up with their own version of the quilt.  I call mine Autumn Glory.

Go over to the Quilty Pleasures blog and see my blog post to view pictures of my journey.

Well as you know I am up north visiting my son Patrick, his wife Courtney and granddaughter Ashley.  We brought up my youngest granddaughter Cassidy so she could visit with her cousin.

It was a beautiful day and we made it to the Mackinaw Bridge in time to have a picnic lunch.

It was so beautiful.  Blue skies and a cooling breeze.  We had an unexpected visitor to lunch.

Unfortunately he brought about 25 family members with him so we had to pack up and leave.

This is the sign that greeted us when we got to Pat's.  I think Ashley was happy to see us.  Terry and I were pretty tired from driving all day so we stretched out and relaxed.  Courtney took the girls swimming in Lake Superior.  Brrrrr  That lake is cold.
While they were gone we had some visitors in the back yard.

A young doe and a young buck.  The pictures are a little fuzzy because I took them through a screened window.  They stuck around for a little while.

This morning my son's neighbor invited him and my husband to fishing on Lake Superior.  The mighty fishermen got up at 6:30am all excited for their adventure.  Around 8:00am my son calls to tell me they were in an accident.  Some one ran a red light and hit the vehicle they were in between the truck and boat.  Everyone was fine, no one hurt in either vehicle.  Truck and boat sustained injuries...the truck can be driven but the boat leaks.  The people in the other vehicle were on vacation.  Husband, wife and 2 kids.  Their vehicle had to be towed.

My daughter-in-law Courtney left to take their jeep and pick up the unlucky fishermen.  I sit here still waiting for them.  I'm am so glad no one was hurt.

So for the rest of the day we have a drag race and fireworks....like we haven't had enough already...lol

Well they are home.  I have to check them out.

Going on Vacation

We leave tomorrow to go to the Upper Peninsula to visit my son and his family.  We are going to take my granddaughter Cassidy so she can visit with her cousin Ashley.

This is what they looked like 2 years ago.  They have both grown so much.  I will post a picture of this duo next week to show how much they have grown.  We always have such a good time when we visit.

Last week I showed you the blocks I designed for my New Bee swap on 15 Minutes Play.  Well here are the first set of blocks I have received.  I am going to make some more so I can have a large quilt.  I think I am going to use white sashing between the blocks.  All these blocks are made from made fabric.  We have taken all our scraps, sewn them together and then cut them into our patterns.  I thought this would make me use up my scraps but they seem to multiply instead.  lol

Weather here is beautiful hope it is the same tomorrow when we cross the Mackinaw Bridge.  I will be sure to post pictures of our time up north.

BTW...I finished my latest Scrap Squad quilt.  Just waiting to hear when it will be posted on Quilty Pleasures Blog (Quiltmaker Magazine).  As soon as I hear something I will let you know.

Summer is HERE...

And it is HOT.

Not much to share with you today.  Wanted to say hi and hope you are keeping cool.  The temps are in the 100's and it is humid.  Some wicked storms have been going through our area and we have been having flash flood warnings.

Thank goodness for air conditioning.  We have a room air conditioner in our bedroom and in mine sewing room.  I don't know how I would get any sewing done without it.

I am almost finished with my Scrap Squad quilt.  The quilting is done and the binding is made.  I'm going to sew it on the quilt today.  Then I just need to do the write up for Quiltmaker's blog.

So I am going back to the sewing room.  I wanted to share a picture of a beautiful sunset from the Upper Peninsula.  I will be going there on the 13th for a much needed rest and visit with my son Pat, his wife Courtney and my granddaughter Ashley.  We will be taking my other granddaughter Cassidy with us.

Stay cool and Happy Quilting.

Hugs, Cathy
