More on my vacation. After we left Green Brier State Park in Maryland we headed to Bull Run State Park in Virginia. Hubby is a big Civil War Buff. He also shoots an original Civil War Carbine in competition so when ever we get a chance we visit Civil War Battle Fields. We also got to visit with our son Scott and his wife Amanda.
This is the famous Stone Bridge in Manassas, Virginia.
From here we went onto the battlefield. It was gloomy out and was raining off and on so we didn't get many pictures.
This is the Henry family homestead that is on the battlefield.
This is the statue of Stonewall Jackson.
I just had to include this...it is a tree near our campsite. It reminded me of an owl looking out of the tree.

I love historic sites. I think I drove my family crazy with them when we would take vacations. : )
I have to say, my first glance at the last photo--it looked to me like the face of a lion peeking out the hole. I thought of Aslan in Narnia. Interesting shot.
I like visiting places like that too. I think you are right about the owl in the tree. Neat.
what a terrific looking tree- I love knarled branches on big old trees - they have such character.
It looks like a wonderful vacation filled with lots of interesting history. We have been to a few Places like that in Canada ( Upper Canada Village, Fort Edmonton and Louisberg come to mind) I always come away having enjoyed looking back in history. Thanks for sharing.

i definately see a face looking out at me.
i think visiting these historical sites helps to make the history 'come alive' and we realize the timelines in a different way . . .
