Happy April Fools Day

Mother Nature played a trick on us.  It is sunny and warm and it's not snowing.  You may not think that that is a trick but with the weather the way it's been it feels like a trick.

Oh well....On to April's "To Do" List.

1.  Finish the Shoo Fly Quilt Top and if possible get it quilted this month.

2.  Make 8 more Jacobs Ladder blocks.  Then I can finish the quilt in May.

3.  Work on the Medallion Quilt QAL that Lori and Randy hosted last year.  I need to work on the final applique border.

4.  Finish up my Doll Quilt for the Swap Lori hosted.

2014 BOM'S

1.  Sugar Shack  (This one is done photo to follow)
2.  Globetrotting
3.  Hip Chicks
4.  Country Threads (This one is done photo to follow)
5.  Quilt Doodles

I would also like to make a couple more of the APQ QAL

Here is my Sugar Shack April Block.

Here is my Country Threads April Blocks.

And here is a picture of a couple of fabric bags that I made.  Freda got me interested in them and I have plans to make a few more.

The one with the sewing items is going to someone I am making a quilt for  and the other one is going to be mine.  I plan on making a bunch for Christmas presents.

Well thanks for stopping by.  I need to get some things made as I'm going to go up north Thursday to visit my son.  It's been a while.

Enjoy the Spring weather.

To Do List and Giveaway

I am making great headway on my "To Do" list...

I wanted to get 10 Jacobs Ladder blocks made and I did.

I love how this is coming together.  I need to make 18 more then I can put the quilt together. I will make 9 blocks a month for the next 2 months.  This is a project I started early last year.

Continuing the theme of finishing projects from 2013....This is the Amish Sampler Block of the Month by Sentimental Stitches.  You can see I chose not to make it Amish.

This is where I left off last year. I had 3 blocks to go.

After I finished the last 3 blocks I had to put them on point on my design wall.  Only one of the 3 blocks is original to the pattern.  The were a bit involved and I wanted to get this top done so I opted for easier blocks.

Now the blocks were suppose to have sashing around all of them.  I decided not to add it.  I love how it looks like with the red and blue nine patches.

The quilt was suppose to have pieced set in triangles and corner triangles.  Wanting to make the quilt my own I decided to add plain triangles.

You know how hard it is to figure out what size to make the triangles...  Well I got this free app for my phone and my kindle.  It is the Robert Kaufman Quilt Calc.  You go to set-in and corner triangles.  Add the size of your finished block and hit calculate.  I needed 15 1/2" squares cut twice on the diagonal for my set-in triangles and 8" squares cut once on the diagonal for the corner triangles.  This app makes it so easy.

Today I hope to get the top sewn together.  After I am adding a 1 1/2" border of blue and then a 2 1/2" to 3" outer border.

I only have one more project on my "To Do" list.  That is to work on my Primitive Primer quilt.  I don't think this will get done this month but that is okay.  I'm happy with what I've gotten done.

I want to remind you of my Week 3 Giveaway.

Thank you for stopping by.  I hope you are having a wonderful middle of the week and getting lots of sewing done.

This and That

I have a few things to share..

First thanks for all the kind comments regarding my Twirling Fan block.  Sharon is really talented and makes it so easy to do.

I have been asked to share my Dear Jane Blocks.  There is a story behind these blocks.  I started them years ago and placed them in a box for safe keeping...

...In moving up north to take care of Dad and then moving back home the blocks got lost.  Recently I was going through some boxes from the move and found them.  But not before I started over...

This time I was making the backgrounds different in each block while my original all had a white background.  I think I like the scrappy better.

I finished my February block for Quilt Doodles BOM.  My version is kind of boring but I plan on embellishing it later.

Later we are going to add snow flakes to the block.

So my "To Do" list for February is coming along good.

My Primitive Primer hasn't been touch yet.

I haven't worked on my 2013 Pieced Sampler yet

I have made 6 of the 10 blocks that I wanted to make this month for my Plaid Jacobs Ladder

BOMS:

Sugar Shack, Globetrotting, Country Threads and Quilt Doodles February blocks are done.

I have the patterns for the 3 February Hip Chicks block so I will be working on them soon.

And I finished the top for Lori's Midwinter Blues and now need to get it ready for quilting.

So for the 9 projects on my list I have 4 to go.  Not bad.

GIVEAWAY INFO:

On Sunday I showed everyone the book that I am giving away for the second week of my blogiversary month.  To enter click here.  I have already received many entries but unfortunately a few have been no reply commenter's.  I can't get in touch with you if I can't email you.

February 1st and a Giveaway

Well it is February 1st and that means a new "To Do" list.

Yep you are seeing right.  I already have one BOM crossed off my list.  Pat Sloan posted the February block yesterday morning and I got it done last night.

This is the second block for the Globetrotting BOM.  We left Washington DC and landed in Venice, Italy.  The blocks now are all 10" finished.

This is the position of this block in the quilt.  I used the same fabric in the center as I did in the large HST in the center block.

Lori posted part 2 of Midwinter Blues.  I have the pieces all cut out but only had time yesterday to sew one of the half blocks.

I love the way this is looking.  I chose mostly gray/blue fabrics.  Can't wait for part 3.

Now let's see....there was something else I wanted to mention.

A Giveaway...

As I said the other day February holds a few special dates for me.  The first giveaway will celebrate the anniversary of my blog.  3 Years.  (And they said it wouldn't last).  Here is what I am giving away, seeing I bought 2 copies of this book.

I must have really wanted this book.

Here are the guidelines.

For one chance to win comment that you are a follower and let me know how you follow.  Example: Bloglovin, Google, Email.

For a second chance, blog about this giveaway and leave a comment letting me know you did.

It is that easy.  You have until Friday to enter.  A winner will be chosen on Saturday morning.

Thanks for stopping buy and have a great weekend.  It is snowing again here so I will be spending the weekend staying warm and sewing.

Snow again...

I'm sitting here looking out my living room window watching the snow come down yet again.  It's not snowing hard but just enough to make the roads slick.  I saw a flash of red in the neighbors pine tree.  There was a male cardinal sitting in the tree.  They are so beautiful and a welcome bit of color on a gray cold day.

We were suppose to go visit my sister today, however, we did so much sliding on the road before we got to the expressway we decided to turn around and go back home.  We've rescheduled lunch in 2 weeks.

So I am going to get some more sewing done instead.  In the last 2 days I finished up #8 on my list, Quilt Doodles BOM.

It is hard to tell but the fabric I am using is a blue and tan check.  For some reason it reads gray in the picture.  I would have preferred to buy some nice blue fabric....but my goal this year is to try and use only fabric in my stash.  I need 4 yards for this quilt and this was the only blue I had 4 yards.

Last night I got the blocks done for Lori @ Humble Quilts Midwinter Blues QAL.

Lori's directions were very easy to figure out.  I am really happy with these blocks.

So this brings us to....

My January "To Do" List is done...   This is the first time that I got my monthly "To Do" List done.

Now that I'm done I decided to work on some of the Legend and Lace Basket Blocks.  Next week I plan on getting Ashley's quilt ready for quilting.

Hope it is warmer where you are and not snowing.

Thanks for stopping by!

Hugs, Cathy

Woo Hoo

I finally did it.  I finally finished my March Sentimental Stitches BOM.  I got such wonderful ideas from everyone when I tried this block the first time.  I tried to paper piece the block but it didn't work out.  So what I did was draw a line bisecting the Y seam blocks and it worked.  I printed up the templates on freezer paper, cut out my pieces.  Any woo hoo....here it is.

It may not be perfect...but it is done.

I also got my April block done.

It sort of reminds me of a sunflower.

I told you in my last post how I lost and then found my Mojo...well then I came down with the flu.  Not too bad since I had gotten a flu shot.  But because of it I haven't got too much done.

Here's an update on my April Projects.

BOM's
1. Joined at the Hip
2. Country Threads
3. Seasonal Applique
4. Almost Amish March & April
5. Patchwork Posse Winter Wonderland
6. Pat Sloan's April Block

On Going
1. Log Cabin Bow Ties
2. Scrappy Trip Around the World
3. Ashley's Quilt
4. Cup Cake Quilt

Sorry to say I didn't get a chance to work on any of them yet.

UFO Busting
1. Plaid Jacobs Ladder
2. Floribunda (The quilt top is finished and will be quilted next week.)
3. Primitive Primer

New
1.  Small Quilt Talk Quilt Swap.  The top is finished.
2. April's Small Quilt Talk Quilt.
3. Baby Trips Around the World.  Top is finished and should be quilted next week.
4. Sally Post blocks.
5. Henrietta Whiskers.  I got some more hand quilting done.

Well not getting as much done this month as last month.  But I did put too much on my To Do List.  I need to lighten the load.  Nice weather is coming and we will be going camping more often and I won't have as much time for quilting.  Until then I'm going to try and get some more projects done.

Hope to have more to show you later in the week.

Thanks for stopping by.

Hugs, Cathy

April Fools Day

And time to make my to do or want to do list for April.  But first I want to show you my last 2 finishes for March.

This is a little quilt I made for my daughter, Kim, for having us over for Easter.  I had bought her a standing quilt frame for Christmas.  This was from a new pattern I bought by Cheri Payne called  "A Basket Full".  The actual basket was smaller and I enlarged it on my copier.  I hand appliqued and hand quilted it.  Now I've got to make one for myself.

This is a little quilt I made after seeing an antique doll quilt on Pinterest.  Then I also found the quilt in a multitude of quilt books.  It is made up of 2.5" squares, 1.5" squares and 1.5" x 2.5" rectangles.  It worked up quickly and I hand quilted it.

Now for my April List:

BOM'S

1.  Joined at the Hip, March and April's blocks.
2.  Country Threads
3.  Seasonal Applique
4.  Almost Amish, March and April
6.  Patchwork Posse Winter Wonderland
7.  Pat Sloan Quilt a Long (I know I can't believe it either.  Another BOM)

On Going

1.  Log Cabin Bow Ties

2.  Scrappy Trip Around the world.  I need to make 12 more blocks.  So I hope to get this finished and quilted this month.

3.  Ashley's Plaid quilt.  I have 7 blocks made and 23 more to make.

4.  I need to make another cup cake quilt.

UFO Busting

1.  Plaid Jacobs Ladder.  This was a sew a long from 2011 with Freda.  I would love to get at least the top put together.  So I need to make a few more blocks.

2.  Floribunda.  This was a Bonnie Hunter SAL from 2011.  I never really liked
what I did but one of my daughters did so I think I will finish it for her for Christmas.

3.  I think I should make this #1.  It is my Primitive Primer.  I still only need one block to make.  So I will try and make this a priority.

Now if that isn't enough.....

1.  I signed up for a Small Quilt Swap at Small Quilt Talk.  I have 2 months to finish it.

2.  My monthly Small Quilt Talk Challenge.  This month we need to make a quilt using the Contrary Wife block.

3.  I'm making a baby quilt for my Nephew and his Wife.  The are expecting Son #3.

This is what I started on Saturday.  It is a Trip Around the World using just 6 fabrics.  The prints are from Riley Blake.  I am using 2" strips so it is a smaller block that the Scrappy one I am making.

4.  I got a couple of Sally Post Blocks prepped and started working on one of them.

5.  And I started hand quilting my Henrietta Whiskers quilt.  I am quilting it using #12 perle cotton and doing a big stitch.

How's that for a list?  18 projects on my list.  It looks daunting, however the first 6 are just one block.  The next 4 are work on when time permits.   I think I can make a good dent in my list.  Only time will tell.

Well I better get going so I can get some of this done.  Hope you are having a great start to spring.  Since it is April Fools Day...Mother Nature pulled a good one.  It SNOWED this morning.  No accumulation...Thank goodness.  But none the less it snowed.

Hugs, Cathy
