Dearest Boy

We are so close to the end.  I chose to do a pieced block for the last 10" block.  The block is called "Turkey Tracks".  Here is my version.

I like my version.

I put all the blocks up on the design wall.  Then I sewed the different sections together.

The empty spot in the center is for the cow.  I start on this block next week.

Dearest Boy and More

I've go too much stress in my life to add more stress through quilting.  Quilting calms my stress.  So when it came to this month's Dearest Boy block I had to do something different.

I chose an eight pointed block.

Speaking of stress...  This month's UFO, Jan Patek's Front Porch quilt is an epic fail.  I now remember why I put this project up.

I had previously made all the blocks except for the upper right block with the boat and whales and the bike block.

 I finished the Whale block....

I love the whales.  When it came to the bike block I realized this is why I had put this project up in the first place.  3 times I tried to make this block and 3 times I failed.  So this UFO is going back up on the shelf.  I'll try again another time.


I've chosen my UFO for May.

I'm going to make a few changes but otherwise I really love this quilt.

I have 5 blocks made, and I need another 7.  Since it is pieced I should have no problem finishing up this UFO.


Here's an update on my Sally Post blocks.

I now have 20 blocks made.  16 to go.  I work on this in my leisure and it's coming along nicely.

A Few Projects

I got a few projects done.

First up is a couple of Sally Post blocks.  Blocks 19 and 20.

 A little late but here is my Sprouts block for Barbara Brackman's Hospital Sketches.

I love this block.  Now to prep the next block.


Here is the next block for Pat Sloan's "Flower Bouquet" Block of the Week.

Only a few more weeks to go and this will be a quilt.

It looks a little wonky in the photo.  I love the Repro fabrics she used.

She also sent me this little Easter Chick.  It is so sweet.  She also sent me a quilters best friend....Chocolate.

The quilt in my header is a quilt I made during a class with Gwen Marston.  I learned so much from her in that class.  I loved that she gave you permission to enjoy quilting.

Dearest Boy, Sally Post and a Flower Bouquet

It's that time of the month when we reveal the next Dearest Boy block.  I think that we all agree that this month's block is difficult.  How difficult you ask?  So difficult that I did a different block.

If you look at the photo of the quilt this months block is seen under the cow.  The block is called oak tree and we were to make 2 of them.  I want to enjoy quilting and this block wasn't going to do it for me.

Not the most beautiful of blocks but I like them.

I finished another Sally Post block.

This is block 19 of 36.  Too many blocks needed to make to be able to finish this quilt in a month.  So whenever I have a little extra time.  I haven't trimmed this block yet.

 
Wednesday Pat Sloan posted the next block for her Flower Bouquet Block of the Week.

This week there were 2 blocks.  This completes the bottom left of the quilt and we are now three quarters of the way done.

And the final project I leave you with is my March/April Mini quilt.  I call it March/April because I don't think I will have time to make a mini this month.

I think this is my favorite mini/doll quilt I have made to date.

Sunny Weather

But I'm not keeping my fingers crossed.  Yesterday we had snow and hail.  Today beautiful sunshine.  Who knows what tomorrow will bring.

Here's the next 2 blocks for Pat Sloan's Flower Bouquet BOW.

 Here is Block 10.  It is called Cutting Grass. 

Block 11 is called Marigold.  With the fabrics I'm using there is no way it's going to look like a Marigold.


Since I finished the top for my March UFO early I prepped up a block for my Sally Post quilt.

This is block 15.  I plan on getting at least one more block finished before the end of the month.

Crazy Weather

First we had hot steamy weather with a strong wind out of the south.  Then the wind changed and came out of north and we had cold weather and rain.  I got a call from my son in the UP and they got SNOW...crazy and it's May.

I've been working on a few projects.

 I finally finished Sally Post Block 14.  I don't know why but I think this block intimidated me.  So many pieces.  I'm taking a little break from Sally...she is getting to clingy....lol

I finished 6 more Box in a Box blocks.  These are blocks from the Fat Quarter Shop Sampler quilt.  I'm making 20 of each block for a wedding quilt.

 This is from a kit I got from Craftsy.  It is 24" x 24" and will be a Christmas gift.  Right now it resides on my to be quilted pile.  Just waiting for my hands to heal a bit longer from my Carpal Tunnel Surgery.  It still hurts a bit when I try pinning a quilt sandwich.

This is a booklet that came with the latest issue of "Today's Quilter".  I fell in love with the sampler picture on the cover.  It is called "Walnut Grove Sampler".

  So far I have 2 blocks made.  These are the center blocks.  They are 6" blocks. 

I decided to add a 1 1/2" sashing to my 2014 BOM blocks.  I am adding friendship stars to the sashing where the blocks connect.  Then I will add a 1 1/2" border of the same sashing fabric around the quilt and then a final border from the main fabric.

Slow and steady progress is being made.  I also started working on another Red and Green block.  I should be able to show you a finished block next time.

A Few Finishes

I'm trying to finish up a few projects before my Carpal Tunnel surgery on Monday.

This is block 3 for the Red and Green BOM.

This is block 13 for my Sally Post quilt.  I still have block 14 prepped and ready to go.

I got all the blocks sewn for my Cross Terrain quilt.  I put them up on my design wall and played with them till I was happy with the placement.  I took the blocks down and clipped them together by rows with binding clips.  I got one row sewn together.  Hopefully I can start sewing sometime next week.

This morning we went to watch my granddaughter Ashley play hockey.  She had one game last night (they won) and one game at 10:00am.  We had about an hour drive to get there.  It was like a family reunion.  All four of my kids were there and 3 of my grandchildren.  My brother and his wife were there and even my ex-husband came.  It was a nice time.  Ashley's team won 8-0 and she scored a goal.  They have 2 games tomorrow.  I'm hoping to make it.

Monday I have my surgery scheduled for 6:00am.  Hopefully I will only have a few days down time.  Until then I hope you get some sewing done. Thanks for stopping by.

Tired Hands

My hands have been bothering me.  I have tremors and numbness.  So my doctor sent me to a Neurologist.  He did an EMG.  Sent me to a hand surgeon.  The outcome is I have to have Carpal Tendon Surgery on my right hand.  It is scheduled for March 13.  Luckily I am have a scope surgery.  The doctor told me I will only have a 2 to 3 day down time.  After that I will be having the same thing done on my left hand.  I am so happy that I will have minimal down time as I have so many projects to work on.

Speaking of projects....   Here is what I have been working on.

Here is my Sally Post block #12.  I have 13 and 14 prepped and ready to go.  I am working on the 3rd block for my Red and Green quilt and will show you my progress soon.

Next up is my Friendship blocks.

Here are blocks 21-28.  I only have about 150 blocks to go...lol.  I think I may make a smaller quilt.

Finally up....  I have all the blocks sewn for my Cross Terrain quilt.  I am going to put the blocks up on my design wall later today and start getting the quilt top sewn.

I am excited...Friday my son, daughter in law and granddaughter will be coming down.  My granddaughter Ashley will be participating in a Hockey Tournament.  I love watching her play hockey.

Sunny and Cold

We haven't had much sunshine lately, mostly gray skies.  So it is so good to see the sun and blue skies.

I've been fairly busy but I can't show everything.  I just finished the last of the blocks to be tested for Quiltmaker Magazine.  They are for the next issue of 100 Blocks.  I also tested 2 additional blocks for a different group.  So I made a total of 4 blocks this last weekend for a total of 15 blocks that I tested.

Now for what I can show you.

 I finished 4 more friendship blocks.  I now have 20 made and only 162 to go.  Good thing I'm in no rush.

Last night I finished Sally Post block #11.  I have block 12 prepped and ready to go.

I started working on Barbara Brackman's Yankee Diary.  Here is block 1.  I love how it turned out.  I love working on quilts that have both applique and piecing.

I also quilted another block on my Westering Women quilt.  Again slow and easy.

I was going through all my project boxes and came across a quilt designed by Lee Heinrich called Cross-Terrain.  I didn't realize that I had the entire quilt cut out, a few blocks sewn and just waiting for me to get around to finishing it.

Each blocks is made of 4 units.  The blocks will not be pieced with all 4 units made of the same fabric.  They will be made using 4 different fabrics.  I just layed this out so you can see what the block will look like. 

The blocks are made using a jelly roll.  I am using a Fig Tree Jelly Roll.  I am using muslin for the back ground.

I have pieced enough units to make 16 blocks.  And I need to make enough units to make an additional 20 blocks.

A Finish

It's small, but it's finished and it's hanging on the wall.

 

Here it is...Temecula's Little Box of Chocolate.  I first saw the quilt on Janet O's blog Rogue Quilter.  She has made 2.  I want to make a couple more for gifts.


Next up....more blocks.

I finished 8 more friendship blocks.  I now have 16.  However I'm not real happy with the bottom 2.  The floral print is what I am using for the final border for this quilt.  We'll see if they make it or not.

These are 12" blocks.  She just posted Block 8 and it's going to be 18".  This is going to be an interesting quilt.

And finally Sally Post Block #10.  I also have Blocks 11 and 12 prepped and ready for some evening applique.

Today when I was checking out blocks I follow I was excited to see that Barbara Brackman included a photo of my Westering Women on her blog.  I was so thrilled.  Today I am quilting another block.  When finished I am down to 10 blocks needing quilting.  Slow and steady gets the job done.
