Isn't this fun. I am so enjoying this Gwennie Inspired Medallion Round Robin.
The theme for the second round was "Childhood" memories. My memory comes from a cross country camping trip my parents took us when I was 13. We had 6 weeks of vacation...a wonderful vacation filled with so many memories but one still stands out after 53 years. We left our home in Michigan and traveled to California via the southern route and returned home via the northern route. Our trusty old stationwagon pulled our trailer...with some bumps along the way. The car wasn't as fond of the trip as it was to us
We made it to Yosemite National Park. On the Fourth of July we took a drive up into the mountains. The car decided to over heat. Luckily there was still snow up there. We packed the engine in snow and then had the best snow ball fight of our lives. Us 4 kids and mom and dad in shorts throwing snowballs at each other. That memory was the inspiration for my 2nd round.
As before I started with a drawing to decide what size my snow balls should be.
And here it is. It looks a little wobbly because of my design wall. I am so happy with the was it looks.
Here is my second more modern looking Medallion quilt. So different from the first but I'm happy with it too.

Now for the Round 3 theme.
Log cabin. Be inspired by all the different Log Cabin blocks. From the above picture traditional block to Courthouse Steps, Spiral Log Cabin, Quarter Log Cabin, etc. Or be inspired by the names of Log Cabin Settings, Streak of Lightning, Barn Raising....etc.
Have fun with it. Make it as simple or as involved as you like. We look forward to seeing how the Log Cabin block inspires you.

Our family did a lot of snowball tossing, too (grew up in Michigan). Great idea to use that thought for your second round - and how interesting to see two very different versions in your two quilt projects. Happy about the log cabin theme for round 3!

I had a very similar childhood experience with my family in the Rockies! I think your more traditional medallion is charming, and I love the color of the modern version!
I'm going to have a special challenge with round 3 as I've already used log cabins in round 2!

I love that you sketched out your border idea on graph paper. I did that also for each of mine but changed ideas for one.
I've put each quilt on its own page and will continue to plan the borders this way. Of course some minor design adaptations occurred along the way.
Love your story of the family trip reminds me of driving from Vancouver B.C. to family in the Sacramento area and then along Route 66 to mu aunt's home in Chicago and then across the Dakotas and home again. Only on our trip when we passed through Tucumcari New Mexico they had more rain in half an hour than they typically get in a year! We saw people soaked to the skin and ladies carrying their set sandals and walking barefoot.
Seems like we have similar tendencies. Now to figure out the log cabin round.

What a clever idea to use snowball blocks, and I love your inspiration story. As I read all the stories from the other quilters, I'm touched by the common experiences we all had growing up.
Both are fun borders. Weird how the same idea can look so different.
I still throw snowballs at the grandkids!
And I remember tent camping in the mountains of Colorado as a kid and it was soooo cold we had to put on all of the clothes in our suitcases and then find rocks to heat up around the campfire to put in our sleeping bags to keep warm.

Love your story and the snowballs border!! My childhood vacation memories revolve around the beach, especially Jekyll Island, Georgia. I finally used a treasured fabric I've held onto for years--pink, with scattered figures of 3 girls and a boy, representing both my childhood and my four children--for the first border. Now onto playing with log cabins! What fun!
