With a flurry of stitches.
This is a photo before I started quilting it. Hopefully at the end of the month I can show you a photo of the finished quilt.
I finished the last block for my Old Voices, New Impressions quilt.
I did my open wreath a little different from the original. With the final block finished I decided to cut the sashing and cornerstones together and start putting the quilt together.
I chose a light blue fabric for the sashing. The border fabric is a darker version of this color. I still need to cut the inner border out of the same blue. Then I can add the final border. I'm not doing the scallop border. I am really happy with the way this is looking. I'm so glad Karen suggested us making this quilt, otherwise I don't think I would have made it.
I also have be working on my flannel tumbler quilt.
The top is now finished. I purchased some flannel for the back and it is pieced together. I just need to iron it and I can get this quilt pin basted. I chose a thin batting as the thickness of the flannels would be a bit much with a thicker batting.
I started the 365 Blocks. I get a pattern each day for a new pattern. Here are the first 5 plus a challenging block. I am saving the patterns and working on 5 at a time. So far so good.
This cold or should I say frigid weather we have been experiencing is keeping me inside and in my sewing room. So I'm getting lots done. During the day I sew blocks and in the evening I have been trying to finish up the hand quilting on my Henrietta Whiskers quilt. This quilt has been years in the making. I think I started it in 2010 or 2011? It was a free block of the month by Bunny Hill. I stopped working on it but printed up the patterns. Started working on it again in 2012. Finally finished the top in 2013. Starting hand quilting in cold weather only and am proud to say I will finally have finished it this year.
This is a photo before I started quilting it. Hopefully at the end of the month I can show you a photo of the finished quilt.
Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a great day.
Hugs, Cathy
It is so beautiful. I can't wait to see it finished. Will you hand quilt it? I'm joining the party late. I have finished 8 blocks in the past 2 months. Seeing yours has really inspired me to get going on this.
ReplyDeleteWow,stunning.Love them all.
ReplyDeleteI`m playing along on 365 challenge blocks.
Have a fun weekend.
Your OV,NI quilt is so lovely! Almost makes me want to try applique (almost--not quite). : )
ReplyDeleteThe tumblers will be a cozy quilt.
Cheering you on with your 365 Blocks. You will be so glad you did it.
I remember Henrietta Whiskers. That must be a good feeling to be closing in on a finish!
You are one busy productive quilter and will have many wonderful quilts to show for your hard work and efforts
ReplyDeleteThe lighter blue sashing sets off the Old Voices blocks very well. I have my final blocks prepped but have not done any stitching.
ReplyDeleteMy friend did Henrietta Whiskers and gave it as a gift to someone who likes squirrels really well. I did not save the patterns. I know you are glad to get it done and be able to move on to something else.
Oh, forgot to mention that I made the New Year block of the 365 block sew-along. I have decided that, since I have never done more than make a couple blocks for Dear Jane, I would rather do that than the 365 blocks. I will enjoy watching your progress.
ReplyDeleteCold winter weather can be positive especially when you have gotten so much sewing done. Your Old Voices is beautiful. The blue sashing is a good choice to set the blocks off. The flannel tumblers will be nice to snuggle under when it's done. And then, of course, your 365 block a day project will keep you very busy throughout the year., but will be awesome this time next year.
ReplyDeleteI adore the light blue sashing Cathy! The blocks are so pretty- nice work!
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt you are hand quilting- good time to start it. Good luck with the 365 block quilt!!
That blue sashing is perfect for those gorgeous blocks. You have gotten off to a great start for 2016.
ReplyDeleteDear Cathy,
ReplyDeletebeautiful finished top, love the light blue as sashing. That is a very good idea. You have so many beautiful projects on the go.
Greetings,
Sylvia
Your old voices blocks are beautiful! I love your open wreath! Fun to see your 365 blocks. I signed up for the emails but haven't made any blocks yet. It's such an intriguing project. Hurray for handquilting! A handquilted finish is marvellous!
ReplyDeleteOh - that sky blue looks lovely with your pretty blocks! great choice.
ReplyDeleteThe tumblers turned out great and will be so soft and cozy!
Congrats on your finish! It is so fun and scrappy! I love hte squirrels jumping the pumkin and hte house.
All you blocks look so beautiful together! I love the blue you chose for the sashing. I would never have completed these blocks without the sew along. Your flannel tumbler quilt is going to be so warm and cozy. Congratulations on finishing Henrietta Whiskers!
ReplyDeleteLove your quilt! Another one that I had high hopes of doing, but...
ReplyDeleteYou did an awesome job with yours!
