I decided last month that I wasn't going to sign up for any BOM's or Sew Alongs for the new year. That's sooooo funny. Because the first thing I did was sign up for Sentimental Stitches Cabot Cuties II.
Here are the first 5 blocks. They are 4 1/2" finished. Talk about stress. But luckily they are paper pieced. I made the first block (paper pieced). Then I made the second block. It was pieced. When finished it was slightly larger than the first block. I double checked and measured the paper pieced pattern and it was slightly smaller than it should have been. I had to redo the block. To get it to print the right size I had to print it at 104%. Odd percentage but it worked.
My sister-in-law Dawn's mother is a quilter too. We don't see each other very often but when we do we talk about nothing but quilting. Last time I saw her she said they were moving into a condo. Much smaller than her house. While going through her quilting room she came across some magazines and books and some 5 inch strips of flannel.
This was delivered to me on Christmas Eve. Today I sat down and looked at the fabrics and thought about what I could use it for. Aha....large tumblers. This morning I sat down and cut it up using my Accuquilt Tumbler Die.
I ended up with a nice pile of Tumblers. I dug out my small stash of Flannels and I'm in the process of cutting it into 5" squares so I can cut some more Tumblers. Not sure if I'll have enough Tumblers for a quilt. I may have to buy some more Flannel.....
I hope you are having nice weather. We were in the 50's and then yesterday we had an ice storm. Sleet everywhere. This morning it was in the 40"s and everything is melting. Strange weather we are having.
Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day.
Hugs, Cathy
I had to laugh. I know exactly where you are coming from when you say you aren't signing up for any sew-alongs and then before long, you are working on a new one. I know there will be some starting in January and look forward to seeing what's out there. I have not been tempted by the Cabot blocks as I don't like paper piecing very much. I have lots and lots of patterns for 4 1/2" blocks that I could try paper piecing. I signed up a couple years ago for the Baltimore blocks from Sentimental Quilts and have not done a one of those.....but I have the patterns.
ReplyDeleteWonderful project Cathy, and I will not come up with the conclusion not to sign up for another SAL. Hopefully this cup will pass by me the comming year.
ReplyDeleteGreetings,
Sylvia
Quilters speak the same language. Looks like you have chosen a beauty for BOM
ReplyDeleteGreat projects.I love to join QALs or BOM.Have fun playing with your new ones.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a joy ,peace and blessing New Year!
Everyone is smiling at your post because we've all said the same thing. There are a couple I have my eye on so I'll see if I love them when they're finally started. How fun to get a new'old' stack of fabrics. Great idea with the tumblers. It's like a free quilt.
ReplyDeleteSome BOMs are just irresistible.:)
ReplyDeleteI adore the blocks and the setting! No wonder you started!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love that quilt--the colors, the block size, the settings-all of it!!
ReplyDeleteI keep telling myself I am not joining more SALs, but I won't stake my life on it. : )
Those blocks are going to make a beautiful finish as are the tumblers.
ReplyDeleteEek - I'll leave that one to you, lol!!! Beautiful blocks but ugh paper piecing...or rather, piecing period! Lovely flannels. We were out driving in that ice, it was slooooooow going!
ReplyDeleteI love it! I do the same thing too. What a great bom. How big are the blocks?
ReplyDeleteLove the setting and setting combination.
A flannel tumbler sounds warm and cozy!
