First of all....have you noticed the picture at the top of blog changed. I've been thinking of my Mom a lot lately. She died in June 2010. She loved living in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and loved living on Big Lake Manistique. After she died I moved up there to take care of my Dad. I loved taking pictures around the property. This was a piece of driftwood she found and kept it down near the lake. Pleasant memories.
Now for some sewing.
Last week I was asked if I would make a baby quilt. They don't know if it is a boy or girl and she wanted a rubber duck on it. This is what I came up with.
The blocks are 8" finished. And the quilt is 40" square. I used a Moda white jelly roll for the background. For the pinwheels I used a Layer Cake called from Baby to Bump. The duck is hand appliqued and I got the design from a free image web site. I just had to enlarge the image. I hope she likes it.
Next up....I finished hand quilting my little log cabin quilt.
I'm really happy with the with the way it turned out. It took longer than I expected to hand quilt it.
I recently purchased a small Tumbler die for my Accuquilt Go. I cut a couple hundred of them from some charm squares I had. This is what I made from a few of them.
I quilted this 1/4" inside the tumblers only in one direction.
And finally....
I started working on Cheri's Sew Along that she has generously shared on her blog. There are 25 blocks and it has an applique on the border. I have the 3 blocks above made and have plans on making another one today. I plan on making a block a day. I was so busy working on my Ohio Sampler quilt that I didn't have time to work on this.
The sun is shining and a nice breeze is blowing. The windows are open and the birds are singing. And I am happily going into my sewing room to play.
Have a great day and thanks so much for stopping by.
Hugs, Cathy

what a pretty driftwood and a nice reminder of your Mother.
ReplyDeleteYour baby quilt is adorable - love the ducky!
sweet little quilts. the LC is especially sweet.
Cute baby quilt! And the little rubber duck is darling.
ReplyDeleteYour log cabin is beautiful. And special with the hand-quilting!
Nice blocks so far. What size are they? We get to things as we can, don't we? You manage to get a lot done!
What a nice reminder of your Mother!
Love your new header - what a sweet reminder of your mum. And your quilts - so beautiful - love the ducky - the colors are perfect. Your log cabin is amazing - was it hard to hand quilt? I hate going over seams with hand quilting, lol.
ReplyDeleteHow sweet to include a special memory of your mom on your header. Sometimes it's the small things that make the best memories, You've been busy, lots of cute projects. The baby quilt will make a lovely gift and seeing your log cabin continues to push me to make one too. Sounds like you've gotten into the Accu-Cutter in a fun way.
ReplyDeleteI never had time to work on the Cheri sampler blocks either. I like the end product.
ReplyDeleteNice remembrance of your mother. Kind of like when I see a robin, my Mom's favorite bird. Tomorrow would be my Mom's birthday - she was born in 1911. I love the baby quilt. A great idea for either boy or girl. And the LG quilt is adorable. Of course, I love log cabin quilts! Some day I will join in on a QAL again, but for me now, it's working on either UFOs or current projects.
ReplyDeleteLooks like some fun projects. Love the baby quilt!
